What is it like to be a hop, skip, and jump away from success?  LA based actress, recording artist, and model Adriyan Rae surely knows.  The Delaware native had a dream role in the film ‘Burning Sands’ which premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.  The feature film’s storyline about hazing made her proud to be a part of the project as she worked with iconic actress Alfre Woodard.

Staying inspired isn’t always as easy as 1, 2, 3 according to Rae.  Prior to Burning Sands, moving to LA from Atlanta was a culture shock for Rae who likens the experience to “the boy in ‘The Alchemist’ once he reached the marketplace…the city is tough…On the flip side, if the passion is there it can be a land of colossal opportunity. You just have to find a way to stay grounded, have a healthy outlet to rid yourself of frustration, and keep really genuine people around you.”

What is so compelling about the entertainment industry that a former Junior Olympian and accredited Medical Laboratory Scientist would change directions so drastically to become a professional actress?  In one highly talked about phrase – the arts.  Rae, who is classically trained in theater, extensively trained in comedy, improv and TV/film acting states, “The arts is what touches people’s spirits and moves them. The arts have the ability to make someone extremely happy, reminisce of better days or good times, miss someone important to them, etc.

“We all have that one song that will come on and you’ll think of the first time you heard it with someone special…the arts change people’s lives, provide outlets (Like for me poetry and singing were my outlets while growing up), and can bring people of all colors, gender identifications and religions together. Imagine a world without movies, or music, or beautiful paintings and photographs… The arts are crucial to many and they may not even know it. That’s why it’s important for us to protect the progression and growth of the arts; especially when it comes to our youth.”

Rae comments on her best career memories so far, “My favorite moment is a toss-up between the first time my mama called me saying she seen me on TV and how proud she was of my handwork and resilience and the 2017 Sundance Film Festival at the Wanderlust Burning Sands Afterparty where EP Common put on a mini concert for everyone, starting with the credits song of Burning Sands “The Cross”. And the whole cast, producers, crew, EVERYONE was there, all the cast was on stage, singing and laughing and dancing, after the PREMIERE of the movie we all worked so hard on!! It was honestly amazing. We are all so close so to get to share that moment with them was one of favorite moments thus far.”
