Yandy Smith-Harris has blossomed before our eyes on VH1’s Love & Hip Hop: New York. We were first introduced to her as Jim Jones’ manager; now she is a business mogul, wife and mother.
Even though we get to see a peek into Yandy’s life on Love & Hip Hop: New York; she took the time to open up to us on a different level we have never heard before.
DL: When asked, how Yandy keeps it all together with her busy schedule this is what she had to say:
“My spirituality and my family. Together they keep me grounded and focused. I also take it one day at a time and keep an optimistic outlook on all situations.”
DL: One of the things I’m sure that keeps Yandy’s fans watching her on Love & Hip Hop: New York is her positivity. There often can be a lot of stereotypes or misconceptions about Reality Stars but Yandy was able to share with us her point of view.
YS: “I honestly don’t think their are misconceptions. I think we have enough examples of strong powerful women on reality tv (Kimora, Kandi, and myself) to combat any misconceptions but I do believe that the positive gets overshadowed by the crazy. I don’t worry about the crazy, I’m just concerned with diversity and making sure that I don’t contribute to the misconception.”
DL: One thing we all know Yandy to talk about during the show is getting her money! Lol. And there is nothing wrong with that. Over the seasons we have seen her boss side, but in recent seasons we have seen a softer side of Yandy as she stepped into the role of a mother. Here is what she had to say about her experience as a mother;
YS: “The feeling is really indescribable. I could only define it as the absolute definition of love. Nothing is more important to me. I breathe for them.”
DL: In addition to being mother, Yandy is now married to her long time beau Mendeecees. They both shared that beautiful moment with us through the TV screen.
I think a lot of times we have this image in our mind of what marriage is and then once we are married we wish we could give ourselves advice when we were single. So, Yandy was asked what advice would she give her single self and she said;
YS: “Don’t rush, let nature take its course. When the time is right God will line everything up as they should be.”
DL: Changing gears, we all know Love & Hip Hop: New York to give us our entire “life” so to speak with all juicy drama that keeps us watching every week. We asked Yandy what are some shows she enjoys watching and she said;
YS: “Scandal, HGTV, Cooking channel.”
DL: I think most girls can relate to Yandy. We fight hard for our men, love our babies and work hard. In the infamous words of Beyoncé, “Who run the world? Girls.” Yandy shared with us some projects she was working on.
YS: “I am working to expand the EGL (Everything Girls Love) brand. Along with our annual GLE event as an annual women’s empowerment weekend in the Bahamas. I launched Muteshop.com which specializes in sophisticated trendy items for the modern woman. I am also working on a book and web series headed towards helping women “Brand their Brilliance.” I want to expand the Modern Domestic component of EGL to include a lifestyle show. I’m also still managing artists and producing.”
DL: Being a boss is not easy and takes a lot of time out of our day, right ladies? But we all know it’s important to find balance. We asked Yandy what does she do for fun, and how does she spend her “me” time. Here’s what she has to say:
YS: “I love spending time with my husband and family at home, doing nothing but laughing and lounging. I also love a good girls night or girls trip. Those things are medicine for soul.”
DL: Now you know we couldn’t leave without talking to Yandy about giving us a sneak peek into what to expect in the new season of VJ1’s Love & Hip Hop: New York. Here’s what Yandy shared with us;
YS: “You can expect to see more of Yandy and what Yandy stands for, family and business. My Everything Girls Love Empire, the MuteShop.com, and lots of great things happening in 2016 that I can’t wait to share.”
DL: We love the role model Yandy has grown to become through our TV screens. She definitely stands out. We cannot wait for the new season to air December 14, 2016; so we can keep up with Yandy and how everything plays out with the new cast members this season. YS: “I want women to know that we don’t have to choose. We can have family and career and be successful at both. I want women to know that it is possible to be beautiful, sexy, and a boss. I want them to know these things because they see me and the women of EGL as living examples.”
