Looking for a festive, traditional cocktail to serve this holiday season? Coquito is a deliciously thick and silky drink that originated in Puerto Rico. A classic cocktail to get into the seasonal spirit. It’s not a holiday without this exquisite and debauched homemade Coquito. An obvious requirement for enjoying with your loved ones.

INGREDIENTS:

1 15 oz can Cream of Coconut (Coco Lopez)

1 13.5 oz Coconut Milk

1 14 oz can Condensed Milk

1 12 oz can Evaporate Milk

1 Tsp Vanilla Extract

1/2 Tsp Ground Cinnamon

1/4 Tsp Ground Nutmeg

1 cup White Rum

The best rum to use to make this traditional holiday drink is Bacardi

INSTRUCTIONS:

In a blender, combine the cream of coconut, coconut milk, condensed milk, and evaporated milk. Blend on high speed for 3-4 minutes until fully incorporated.

Slowly add the vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and white rum, blending for 1 minute on high speed until smooth.

*** Taste the Coquito and add additional rum if desired.

Transfer the Coquito to an airtight container and refrigerate for 4 hours before serving, preferably overnight. This will thicken the Coquito and enable the flavors to blend and soften.

Pour your chilled Coquito into your favorite cocktail glasses, sip, and enjoy!

Notes: If you want to make a non-alcoholic drink, omit the rum. No alcohol Coquito could be served at a party or family gathering with non-drinkers, young children, and expectant mothers.

To store coquito without alcohol, keep it in an airtight container in the refrigerator and consume within 7 days of combining.

Coquito with alcohol can be stored in an airtight jar in the refrigerator for 4-6 weeks. Always shake vigorously before serving.

If the Coquito thickens in the fridge, dilute it with 1/4 cup of coconut cream as needed.

Cream of Coconut: The main component. It adds a lot of coconut flavor, sweetens the drink, and adds a hint of creaminess.

*** Do not confuse “Cream of Coconut” with “Coconut Cream.”

Coco Lopez brand is my preferred cream of coconut for classic Coquito due to its high quality standards.

Coconut Milk: Is a vital element in coquito. It also thickens the beverage and enhances its tropical flavor.

Condensed Milk: Sweetens and thickens the coquito. It balances out the other ingredients without compromising the richness.

Evaporated Milk: Provides a thicker texture and richer flavor to the drink.

Vanilla: Enhances the flavor.

Ground Cinnamon: Provides a warm, fuzzy flavor.

Ground Nutmeg: Freshly grated nutmeg adds the most flavor.

Rum: Bacardi is recommended. It is the basic liquor and works well in this cocktail.

** For a real Coquito, use Don Q. It is the most popular brand in Puerto Rico.

Cheers!
