The Dominican Republic is known for a lot of wonderful things. Its natural beauty, its baseball players, its food, its beautiful people. It is also known for the best rums anywhere, especially one very special rum, coveted the world over, Ron Barceló, a rum that has been around for 88 years now.
What sets Ron Barceló apart from the many other rums on the shelf is that Ron Barceló is the only Dominican rum made not from molasses, like all the others, but from the fermented juice of the sugar cane. That difference gives it is distinctive well-rounded taste. To ensure its quality, Ron Barceló even grows its own sugar cane in the company owned sugar cane fields of San Pedro de Macoris.
The proof of the success of their process is that Ron Barceló holds a world-class portfolio of award-winning rums. Those awards include two recognitions as “The Best Rum in the World,” as denoted by the renowned Beverage Testing Institute of Chicago for Barceló Imperial, the Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and named “Best in Class” at the Miami Rum Renaissance Festival for Barceló Imperial Premium Blend 30 Aniversario, and a gold medal at the International Rum Festival for Barceló Gran Añejo. These are but a few of the awards for its outstanding line-up.
The Ron Barceló line includes:
Barceló Añejo, which is a blend of rums aged in American bourbon oak barrels for up to four years. It delivers aromas of butterscotch and toffee with flavors of vanilla bean, caramel, and mild spices;
Barceló Gran Añejo features a blend of rums, also aged in American bourbon oak barrels, but ranging in age up to six years. The result is a rich, golden amber colored rum with notes of sweet spice, mocha, toffee and coffee bean.
Barceló Gran Platinum features a natural cane sugar essence with a touch of citrus peel and a hint of sweetness.
Barceló Imperial is the top of the line for the brand. It is a blend of rums ranging in age up to 10 years. This super-premium’s full-bodied expression features hints of toffee, roasted nut, spice, and vanilla.
Barceló Imperial Premium Blend 30 Aniversario is a very limited run, with only 600 bottles available annually in the U.S. Each year, private reserves of Ron Barceló Imperial are set aside for additional aging in barrels made from selected cuts of French white oak previously used for aging highly prestigious Bordeaux wines. Barceló Imperial Premium Blend 30 Aniversario is a blend of these reserves.
Ron Barceló has been making the best Rums for a very long time and continues to lead the way. While one of the older distinguished brands, Ron Barceló, recently became the very first rum to reach the carbon neutral status based on the Bilan Carbone® License.
Recognizing the importance of the environment and wanting to do its part, according to the company, Ron Barceló implemented several different measures to reduce its’ emissions, introducing the use of renewable energy (solar and biomass), as well as reusing and recycling manufacturing waste; both organic and inorganic. The plan for reducing emissions and the desire for a more sustainable product also foresaw the rethinking of some packaging materials based on eco-friendliness, giving preference to suppliers who recycle and who are situated closer to the rum maker ’s distilling, aging and bottling operations.
Needless to say, it looks like Ron Barceló is going to continue to set the standard for rum. It embraces its rich culture and past while being forward-thinking about the processes and how to contribute to the world. Available in 50 countries worldwide, a favorite in many, it is easy to see why it is such a coveted brand. The Dominican Republic continues to be a gift to the world.
