LL: How have you been able to keep in shape during quarantine?

JJ: I was fortunate enough to have a gym in my house throughout the whole quarantine. That’s what prompted me to start in-house workouts for those who didn’t have access to a gym.  [I was] giving them some routine steps they could do in the confines of their own house.

LL: Everyone knows about your music career and your extensive recording catalogue, but you’re now gaining momentum for your workout prowess. What inspired you to get involved in fitness?

JJ: I’ve been working out for a long time. [It started] probably [around the time] when I first met Chrissy (Jim Jones’ wife). She was instrumental in getting me to go to the gym. That was about 16 years ago. Now, that we have all social media and all the different outlets, people can now tap into what you do, instantly. They can speedily get the content. Fitness is one of the things I like so…doing [fitness] content is not like a job [to me]. It’s more like my daily life.

LL: What do you enjoy most about working out?

JJ: It’s actually a stress reliever. It’s very therapeutic. For those who have anxiety, it can help ease the rest of you day.

LL: Can you take me through your normal fitness routine? Do you start with stretching or cardio?

JJ: I stretch when I first get to the gym. I make sure that I feel loose and get the blood flowing before I begin an intense workout.

LL: What exercises would you recommend to tone arms? And how many pounds should you use?

JJ: Actually, calisthenics is one of the best things you can do to tone up and getting back in shape. You also incorporate some jogging. For the ladies, you can do some light pushups for the arms. The fellas can use the pull-up bars to help strengthen and tone your arms. You can also do some jumping jacks. [You can basically use] all the exercise we’ve learned as a kids is what you should be doing now.  If you have access to a gym and don’t know too much about working out, you can get trainer or [find some fitness videos] on YouTube. LL: What would you recommend for a quick 20- to 30-minute workout?

JJ: You have to be consistent in whatever you do. [In terms of] a short workout, I would say you can work the treadmill and some regular calisthenics. [You can also] add some pushups and some sit-ups; maybe 3 to 5 sets of that. You can do that for about 20 minutes and your burn yourself out. You can end with some jump rope.

LL: What are the best foods to eat before and post working out?

JJ: When I wake up, I make sure I definitely eat a breakfast that gives me a lot of energy. That’s very important and I suggest every eats before they go and workout. For me, I’m on a meal prep that calls for me to eat 3-5 times a day. That’s because I’m trying to put on more muscle mass.

LL: What’s next for your career and how can people find you for business opportunities?

JJ: @JimJonesCapo is pretty much my social media handle. You can reach out there for business. I have a lot going on so I can be specific on what’s next for my career. For now, I have my hands full. Just keep following me and stay tune.
